Red Heart Super 14 Rugby Fund

Red Heart, one of the official sponsors of Vodacom Super 14 Rugby, has formed the Red Heart Rugby Fund which will facilitate donations to a rugby rehabilitation cause, the Chris Burger Petro Jackson Fund.

The function of the Chris Burger Petro Jackson Fund involves assisting the ill-fated victims of serious rugby injuries as its core objective, and thereafter implementing initiatives that aim to educate and inform the public of the potential dangers surrounding full-contact sport, thereby indirectly assisting in the reduction of injuries.

"We are acutely aware of the injuries many players unfortunately sustain through rugby, and to be aligned with the highly reputable Chris Burger Petro Jackson Fund, and assist in the rehabilitation of those effected, is highly rewarding,” said marketing manager of Red Heart Rum, Wayne Merris.

The Red Heart Rugby Fund recently facilitated visits between Super 14 players and patients where the patients are presented with a signed team jersey of the relevant regional team by prominent players. The visits recently commenced in the last week of January with Lions players visiting paralysed Anthony Kasirivu at Netcare in Auckland Park Johannesburg.

To incentivise the public to donate funds, throughout the Vodacom Super 14, fans will be afforded the opportunity to win R14,000 cash at the end of the tournament by sms'ing “Red Heart” to 38777. Each sms is charged at R10.00 and all the accumulated funds will go to the Red Heart Rugby Fund which will, in turn, at the end of the tournament, be donated to the Chris Burger Petro Jackson Fund as one substantial donation of the accrued funds. The aim is to secure 114,000 sms's and thereby contribute generously to this worthy cause.
