Katlego Maboe joins Ice Bucket Challenge in South Africa

Katlego Maboe, the Expresso Morning Show presenter, has joined the wave of celebrities, including President Barack Obama, in the Ice Bucket Challenge, the latest viral campaign to promote awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as motor neuron disease. (video)

Individuals share videos of them being drenched in ice water and then nominate others to follow suit. Maboe had a cold and wet Monday morning, after being nominated by Leigh-Anne Williams to take part in the campaign.

If nominees refuse, they have to donate money to the disease, although most participants have been getting drenched and donating, too. Maboe is one of the first South Africans to take part in the global campaign, which is close to his heart as his sister was diagnosed with the disease.

He has nominated Maps Maponyane, Poppy Ntshongwana and Sport and Recreation Minister, Fikile Mbalula, to take up the challenge next because he believes they are fun and vibrant South Africans who are likely to accept.
