Shout Seed Library for Mitchell's Plain school

Earlier this week the pupils at a local Mitchells Plain school, Eisleben Primary began a new journey. In the midst of National Library Week, 567 Cape Talk had the privilege of being a part of the handing over of a Shout Seed Library, the first of its kind in the Western Cape.

South African musicians Danny K and Kabelo of Shout SA donated the funds for the library to be built. Shout SA, together with Breadline Africa's 'Mandela Day Libraries Project' and local advertising agency 140 BBDO built the state-of-the-art creative space for young minds to read and engage in. This is the fourth Shout Seed Library that has been built in South Africa.

Investing in education

This project also captured the attention of Trevor Manuel, MP: National Planning Commission, who also attended the hand-over. He appealed to learners to, "Please utilise this library, so that we can go back to other businesses in our country and get more money for libraries so that every school will have a Shout Seed Library just like this one."

Architect Kuba Granicki of Architects of Justice built and erected the structure. NGO, Breadline Africa, has provided the books for the library and will monitor and facilitate the library going forward. It has also appointed the librarian, Carol Odendaal.

"Investing in education is huge for us and we're thrilled to come to learner's aid across the country," said Breadline Africa's project manager, Jade Orgill.
