FHM revs its motor

FHM magazine has launched a new supplement with the August issue: FHM Motors, sponsored by Engen, is an 84-page celebration of wheels and dames in FHM's trademark style. Commenting on the decision to launch FHM Motors, publisher Kim Browne says: "We saw a gap in the publishing space to interpret motoring in a way that isn't currently being offered to the South African consumer. After girls, cars are probably the single most important passion for guys."

Browne continues: "We've taken all the standard vehicular topics from drag racing and Formula V to motocross and the 4X4 Challenge and interpreted them in an FHM idiom."

Edited by Anthony Lord, the launch issue of FHM Motors includes interviews with the South African chief designer for Ducati as well as a South African senior crash investigator and coverage on car audio, mags, motorbikes and concept cars.

The supplement also features FHM's World Cup of Cars, ranking the top vehicle-manufacturing nations (and it's not Germany), as well as the 2005 Car Awards, which rewards important achievement in ten categories like Best Car for Impressing Honeys, Best to Dodge Police Attention and Gayest Car.

FHM's dedicated female following have not been neglected either: FHM Motors profiles four local female celebrities and their cars and has a psychologist analyse what their choice of wheels says about them. In addition, for men and women, the Inexpert Guide to Motor Mechanics gives tips on everything from oil changes to replacing spark plugs.
