The reality of modelling talent

The rooi rose supermodel competition has been discovering fresh modelling talent in South Africa for more than a decade and this year Caxton Magazines has raised the bar by fusing the medium with television to create "rooi rose Supermodels", a reality-style programme.

The programme airs on Thursdays at 6pm on SABC2 from May to August and is presented by Robert Bester.

Audience ratings (AR's) for the first episode topped the scales at 13.7 - the highest ratings the channel has received for a new show in almost five years.

Previous winners of the rooi rose supermodel competition include South African-born Hollywood actress Charlize Theron. The then 16-year-old won the title in 1991, kick-starting her career.

Aspirant models competing for the 2005 title can look forward to winning a rooi rose fashion shoot and feature on the magazine's front cover; an international modelling contract with Beatrice in Milan; a Toyota RUNX; Microsoft laptop; Nokia Cape Town Fashion Week catwalk contract; Truworths clothing valued at R20 000; a role in SABC2-produced soapie 7de Laan, and Revlon products for a year.
