Sarie's 60
Today, Monday, 6 July 2009, Sarie magazine turns 60 and is commemorating the milestone over both July and August issues as well as by means of a TV ad on KykNET.
The first issue of Sarie appeared on 6 July 1949 and completely sold out across the country in just 24 hours. Six decades later, the magazine still claims to be the favourite glossy of Afrikaans-speaking women.
The August issue, now on the shelves, features Anna-Mart van der Merwe who to date has been the magazine's most popular cover. It was apt to grace the birthday issue with a symbol of the magazine's success and an Afrikaans icon in her own right.
Sarie's 60th birthday celebration has been extended over two issues - the July and August 2009 issues. The August issue comes with a free pair of earrings available in four different colours.
