Music magazine increases print run

Stage magazine’s recently signed print and distribution deal with Media24’s NMD 24 will see the March 2007 issue go out with a print run of 35 000, with a year end target of 70 000 magazines printed per month. For most of its eight years of publishing, the music magazine has had a print run of around 10 000.

Last year Stage was bought out by new player Colman Murray. Since then, a R3 million investment in the title has seen it become allegedly the only SA magazine to be backed up by a TV advertising campaign, worth half a million rand per month.

“My objective is to take this magazine out of the shadows and turn it into THE top flight music magazine in South Africa,” comments publisher/proprietor Colman Murray.

“It will feature South African music of all genres and styles, commented on by top writers in their fields and reflecting what is REALLY going on in the South African music industry.”

Advertisers have also had their interests underwritten by a circulation guarantee, with Murray promising new advertisers that if the magazine is not selling at least 35 000 copies by the year end, they will get their money back.

With NMD24 as the official print and distribution partner, the magazine will go from being available in around 750 outlets to being in roughly 10 000 outlets all over the country, including CNAs, Clicks, Pick ‘n Pay, Exclusive Books and Forecourt stores at garages.

Under the new regime the magazine has seen positive growth and change, with the institution of an editorial advisory board and a marked upswing in advertising customers. In the March issue, due on shelves the week of 26 March, there will be 34 advertisers in a 76 page magazine.
