eContent to be e-valuated

Entries for the World Summit Award (WSA), a global initiative to select and promote the world's best e-content and creativity, close on 26 July. Held within the framework of and in cooperation with the United Nations World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), the awards seek to highlight the best digital content from each country, emphasising content that promotes the development of an 'Information Society'.

The competition aims not only to make the benefits of the new information society accessible and meaningful for all humanity, but in particular to raise public awareness and give deserved public recognition to the highest quality e-content produced all over the world.

WSA covers the following eight categories: learning, culture, science, government, health, business, entertainment and inclusion.

The WSA in South Africa is the first competition of its kind in the country emphasising the importance of content in bridging the digital divide. The main aim and purpose of organizing this competition is to recognise, encourage and further disseminate South Africa's best e-content practices and products.

For more information on WSA rules and evaluation criteria, visit www.wsis-award.org.

SANGONeT is coordinating the South African WSA process and will involve various online content experts in reviewing the nominations. The South African winners in each category will be entered in the international competition where winners will be announced on 16 November 2005.
