New driver for Wheels24

Angus Thompson, deputy editor of Topcar, will join the Wheels24 team on a six-month secondment from 1 January 2010 as guest editor and responsible for the day-to-day editorial operations of Wheels24, it was announced in a joint statement by both parties on Monday, 9 November 2009.

Pierre Steyn, editor of Topcar, said that the secondment opened up the opportunity to explore natural synergies between Wheels24.co.za, reputed to be the largest motoring website in South Africa, and the magazine as well as the new website www.topcar.co.za.

The magazine's readership has grown to 622 000 per month according to the latest Amps research while Wheels24 reaches 179 822 unique users per month and enjoys over 1.2 million page impressions.

Even though he remains deputy editor at Topcar, Thompson's responsibilities at the magazine will be taken over by the magazine's team. The former editor of Wheels24, Wilmer Müller has joined the Huisgenoot/You team to head up its internet operations.

Another award for Health24

More news from News24.com... Ilse Pauw, editor of Sexology and Psychology, won the Internet category prize at the National Mental Health Media awards presented by Professor Soraya Seedat, co-director of the MRC Unit of Anxiety and Stress Disorders on Thursday 29 October 2009.

Out of the three writers nominated under the internet category, she was applauded for her accurate and well-balanced articles as well as her scientific approach to conditions like depression and the stigma associated with mental illness. Ilse is also a holder of the Carter fellowship for mental health journalism from the Carter Centre in Atlanta.

This award follows the recent Galliova Health Writers award in October. Heather Parker, editor of Health24.com says, “Both of these awards indicate our level of commitment to providing South Africans with world-class health information. Ilse's focus and professionalism makes her a natural winner - it is the fifth time she has won this award. She was the overall winner three years in a row. We are extremely proud of her achievements."
