Mondi Paper Magazine Awards enters its 14th year

In partnership with the Magazine Publishers Association of South African (MPASA), Mondi Paper has for 14 years endorsed excellence in South African magazine journalism, endeavouring to raise the profile of the industry's most talented individuals.

"Our criteria for judging boils down to one thing, and one thing only," says Gus Silber, convenor of the Magazine Awards judging panel. "We want the entries to knock us flat. We want them to wow us in every possible way."

Silber will be joined in his quest by celebrated professionals and media personalities Sue Grant-Marshall, Joe Khumalo, Latiefa Mobara, Rian Malan, Anna Boshoff and De Waal Venter. New to the team of judges are former editor of Elle magazine Shona Bagley, award-winning photographer TJ Lemon, senior Sunday Times journalist Phylicia Oppelt, acclaimed journalist and stage, television and film actor John Matshikiza, and Darrel Bristow-Bovey, best-selling author and last year's Magazine Awards 'Habitual Winner'.

The judging panel welcomes entries published during 2002 in any eligible magazine - consumer, professional, trade or technical - with all 15 categories open to all contenders. The categories, explained in the Call for Entries booklet available from MPASA, are Business, Industry, Health and Wellness, Beauty, At Home, Reviews, Essays and Fiction, Foresight, Leisure, Fashion, Design and Illustration, Photography, Columns, Reportage and Features.

The 15 category winners in the 2003 Mondi Paper Magazine Awards will receive a golden Mondi nib trophy, a cash prize of R8000 and a framed certificate. The winners will be announced at a prize-giving function on Thursday 14 May 2003 at the Sandton Hilton.
