New IABC Africa board elected

The 2009 board of the International Association of Business Communicators Africa (IABC) Chapter was voted in at its recent AGM. With new structures in place, IABC Africa has committed itself to facilitating the opening of two new chapters - one in Bloemfontein and another in Lagos, Nigeria.

The new chairperson is Dr Amanda Hamilton-Attwell, CEO of BusinessDNA, with Roslyn Jones, internal communication manager at Sun International, elected as vice-chairperson.

Commented Hamilton-Attwell, “I am very excited to be working with this dynamic team. We have many events lined up for 2009 and are looking forward to engaging with communicators across the continent”.

The board also consists of Daniel Munslow, executive strategist: operational development at Newsclip; Russell Fox, director: business development and marketing at BDO Spencer Steward; Mareli Wassenaar, CEO of Media Mosaics; Sue Beaumont, member of The Really Useful Communication Company; Mari Lee, founder and CEO of Development Communication Solutions; Daniella Charles, director of Butterfly Reputation Management; and Sophia Dower, senior content manager for Words' Worth. Tertia Dafel stays on in her capacity of IABC secretariat.

In addition to the opening of two new chapters, no fewer than four seminar-type events are planned per chapter for the year, bringing professional training even closer to business communicators. IABC Africa will also continue its drive to increase membership and promote accreditation across the profession, as well as grow its resources and advocate key communication issues.

The IABC is a not-for-profit international network of professionals committed to improving the effectiveness of organisations through strategic interactive and integrated business communication management. Founded in 1970, it provides a network of almost 16,000 business communication professionals in over 70 countries.
