PR & Communications News South Africa

Shell goes corporate

Shell recently appointed film production company Thirteenth Floor Productions to produce an original, though provoking corporate video aimed at communicating Shell's successful implementation of its pan-African management-restructuring program.

The objective of the video, presented to 100 legates at the recent Shell Africa Leadership Conference, was to educate key staff on the restructuring of management within the organisation and its positive effects on the future of Shell.

Claudia Mpeta, Communications advisor for Shell South Africa, says that the project required a great deal of sensitivity and professionalism from the production company appointed for the project. Prior to the presentation of the video, many of the other African-based Shell companies felt that South Africa was the domineering member of the organisation in the continent and the message had to be clear on the importance of unity and communication.

Thirteenth Floor Productions headed by celebrity, Sami Sabiti, Keren Aarons and Sherry Desatnik are all veterans in the art of filmmaking and collectively have over 20 years of experience.

Sabiti says that many corporate videos fail to capture the audience and the videos message is, therefore, quickly forgotten. This shortfall results in a waste of company time and money. "Creating a quality corporate video does not require a huge budget for equipment but simply an ideology that focuses on communicating the meaning behind the message and imagery that captivates an audience," he adds.
