Countdown to Beyond the Printed Word

DARMSTADT, GERMANY: Keynote speaker of Ifra's 15th World Digital Publishing Conference – Beyond the Printed Word – will be Prof Dr Jo Groebel of the Deutsches Digital Institut, who will speak about the new role of the digital user and explain how newspaper publishers can benefit from this. South African participants include Elan Lohmann, publisher of News24.com, who is one of the joint chairs, and Matthew Buckland, GM of the Mail & Guardian Online, who will be speaking on integration of Web 2.0 services into news sites.

Beyond the Printed Word is a networking and informational venue for media strategists and decision-makers from all over the world, who, faced with rapid developments in media, want to extend their leading role to the digital world and expand it. The conference takes places 8 – 9 November 2007 in Dublin, Ireland, for the first time.

In addition to the conference programme, Ifra has installed a solution park with 15 exhibitors in the coffee break area where attendees can get firsthand information on practical web and mobile publishing solutions from companies such as Microsoft, Atex, CCI etc.

All lectures will be translated simultaneously into English, French, German and Spanish. Last year's Ifra conference in Vienna was attended by approximately 450 experts from five continents.

Ifra has also launched a blog, www.beyondtheprintedword.blogspot.com, for the Beyond the Printed Word conference focusing on digital media as a platform for discussion and information. Industry and independent contributors are expressing their views on the event motto “Connecting with the Digital Consumer” and presenting news of the online world. Visitors can post comments and share their ideas.
