ICASA draft regulations on 112 emergency centres
Further, the Electronic Communications Act states that amongst others, the licensees required to carry communications to 112 Emergency Centres may not charge the caller for placing a call to the Emergency Centre and that the cost of carrying communications to and from the Emergency Centre must be borne by the licensee.
The Act further states that as far as possible, the 112 Emergency Centres must have voice, SMS, data and global positioning systems capability.
Copies of the draft regulations are available on the Authority's website, www.icasa.org.za or ICASA library during working hours.
