Money Journalism Award deadline nears

Experts in financial planning and broking as well as a leading journalism school will act as judges for the 2006 Citadel Words on Money Journalism award.

The award, established by Citadel in 1999 to reward and encourage excellent reporting about personal financial matters and investment, has attracted entries from the top financial and investment journalists since inception.

The judges for the 2006 award are Sakkie van de Merwe, CEO of the Financial Planning Institute (FPI), Prem Govender, Vice President of the Board of the FPI and CEO of CP Naidoo and Partners, Louis Geldenhuys, Consultant to the Bureau for Economic Research and former economist and stock broker with various leading brokerages including BOE Securities, and Robert Brand of the Pearson Chair of Economics Journalism at Rhodes University.

Keith Betty, CEO of Citadel, says: "The award has grown every year and now attracts entries from a wide variety of media, not only the established and well-known financial publications.

"Investors and households are increasingly aware of personal financial issues and many use the media for information to assist them in decision making. The growing coverage personal finance enjoys in all media reflects the intensifying interest from investors and consumers.

"It is our aim with this award to further encourage reporting about investment and personal financial matters and reward excellence in this field."

Bruce Cameron, Editor of Personal Finance, was selected as overall winner in 2005, the first person to win the overall prize a second time.

The closing date for entries for the 2006 award is Friday 20 January 2006. Details and the entry form are available on the Citadel web site at www.citadel.co.za.
