Close of Citadel journalism award next week

Entries for the 2012 Citadel Words on Money journalism award close on 31 January 2012, with the awards being presented in Johannesburg in May. It recognizes excellence in reporting on investment and personal finance.

The judging panel remains unchanged from last year, although the assessment format has been revised.

"In 2011, three new judges joined long-serving panellist Godfrey Nti, CEO of the Financial Planning Institute (FPI) and brought fresh perspectives and expertise to the awards," said Citadel CEO, Neil Brown. "FPI board member, advocate Sankie Morata, former deputy editor of the Financial Mail, Michael Coulson and head of journalism at the University of Pretoria and SABC board member, Pippa Green, will continue this year."

New judging process

Due to the increase in the number of entries received each year, the panel had agreed to some amendments to the judging process in 2012.

"Previously each judge received all entries for the award and provided a score for each entrant. Thereafter the average achieved by each entrant was calculated and the top scorers were ranked as the finalists in each category. A panel discussion of the finalists decided the winners. This year the entries will be shared by the judges; similar to the judging format followed by other journalism awards. The judges will each shortlist entries for joint consideration and the ultimate selection of the winners," Brown explained.
