SAB Environmentalist Awards 2006 to include environmentalists

While continuing to honour the group of print and electronic media people dedicated to environmental conservation in its broadest aspects, South African Breweries believes that the prime source of much of the information published or broadcast needs to be highlighted and hence the Environmental Journalists of the Year Awards will now include environmentalists themselves.

The new categories - each with increased prize money - are:

  • Printed Media - R15 000
  • Electronic Media - R15 000
  • The SAB Nick Steele Environmentalist Memorial Award - R15 000

The judges will also consider making 'merit' awards of R2000 across the categories. These awards, which are not runners-up or consolation prizes, are designed to encourage writers, broadcasters or environmentalists to continue making a difference.

How to enter

The two media awards will be based on pertinent material originated in southern Africa between 1 August 2005 and 31 July 2006. A marked change in the judging format is that entrants need submit only up to five of their best articles or, in the electronic category, a show tape or DVD.

The SAB Nick Steele Memorial Award is open to environmentalists only (individuals, not organisations). Entrants may either nominate themselves, or be nominated by their peers. The key criteria is that entrants must have done their utmost to create awareness of the environment in its holistic sense; have inspired others; have been catalysts to motivate change; and have made a meaningful impact in their fields.

The judges will also nominate entrants who will then be contacted by the awards' organisers for similar documentation, as described above. The judging panel, which is being finalised, will be chaired by Dr Ian Player.

To enter, please complete the form at www.sabreweries.com/SABLtd/Home/News/EnviroJournoEntries06.htm and email, fax or post to:
