"We wanted to bring the euphoria of the 2010 FIFA World Cup event to South African youth and give them extraordinary experiences. We are pleased to have 24 children from USindiso Ministries, in Gauteng, and Sithokozise Noah (Nurturing Orphans of Aids for Humanity), in KwaZulu-Natal, participating," says Onwell Msomi, GM, 2010 FIFA World Cup project team at Coca-Cola South Africa.
These 24 youths are among the 768 youth from across the country that will be carrying the national flags at matches. Through its ticket fund initiative, the company provided 20 000 young children with opportunities to watch matches from schools across the country that participated in its recycling programme.
The Makarapa contestants have seen the kick-off concert at Orlando Stadium, after a Sony PS3 and Foosball showdown and attended the opening match at Soccer City by completing a task at Gold Reef City in the south of Johannesburg. They've visited the Cradle of Humankind, the Sterkfontein Caves and even ridden elephants (who gave them tickets to the Serbia vs. Ghana game at Loftus Versfeld). Over the next few days, they will spend some time in the Magaliesburg and at Sun City to complete tasks to win tickets to the New Zealand vs. Slovakia match in Rustenburg on 15 June 2010.
