Sony, Questek to equip 2010 stadia

Sony and Questek Advanced Technologies (Questek) have been awarded the contracts to install networked electronic solutions into the Orlando and Royal Bafokeng stadia, which are being constructed for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The announcement was made today, Thursday, 11 December 2008.

The 40 000 seater Royal Bafokeng stadium is being completed in time for the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup and will be equipped with a 40m2 Barco SLite 14 screen and monochrome scoreboard. The 35 000 seater Orlando Stadium will be fitted with two 30 m2 Barco SLite screens, allowing spectators to get the best views of the action up close.

The auditorium at Orlando Stadium will get a motorised screen, LCD monitors and projector, which will equip this stadium with the most modern technology allowing the community to make full use of the resources in the years to come.

Barco's outdoor LED display product SLite is intended for use at outdoor locations with large viewing distances. With its ultra high light output, SLite is described as being ideal for use in very bright outdoor locations, even in direct sunlight, and is also resistant to harsh outdoor elements. The design ensures that optimal viewing conditions are achieved for all spectators, so that high brightness is achieved even at extreme viewing angles.
