Designing the French way

The French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FSACCI) has launched the nationwide French South African Briefs Design Competition to promote awareness of bilateral trade between South Africa, France and Francophone countries.

Design, film, animation, multimedia and design students between the ages of 18 and 25 who are furthering their studies at a South African institution, are invited to depict their understanding of the business relationships between France and South Africa with a 30sec to 2min multimedia, film or animation in Quicktime, AVI and MPEG format.

Prizes are up for grabs: Renault gives the opportunity to experience design for one month in Paris, in the biggest European design center, the Renault Technocentre, as well as in its advertising agency, Publicis Paris, on the Champs-Elysées Avenue. Renault will provide accommodation and cover living expenses in Paris, to make this experience a full and rich souvenir. Air France will sponsor the air ticket.

Peugeot is offering a second prize of R15 000 towards study expenses in South Africa and FSACCI offers the third prize of R5 000 cash towards study and study expenses in South Africa.

The competition's jury consisting of media specialists and a member of the FSACCI will be evaluating the submissions on the following criteria: Artistic interpretation of the brief, creativity, technical skills and aspects, exploration of the brief, and meeting the brief accurately.

Entry forms will be handed out at design colleges and universities. Students can also enter online by following the J'adore South Africa link on the FSACCI website, www.fsacci.co.za or could alternatively contact Christa van der Merwe on +27 11 726 7674 for further information. Also watch the student and general press for information on the design competition.

J'adore South Africa, as part of the global "Image de la France" campaign, is aimed at increasing awareness of France, its businesses and culture in the South African and African marketplace through a concerted marketing communications programme.
