The Cape Craft and Design Institute continues its free Creative Exchange series in May with Vikki du Preez, design theory and history lecturer at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, focusing on design evolution and theories that influence modern design practice, speaking on 'Sustainable Design and the Era of Consumer Consciousness'.
People encounter design in many visible and invisible ways, in every part of their everyday life. From the packaging we use, to network systems, and from our breakfast cereal to the messages we read - design is all around us. This talk will explore elements of design often overlooked in our modern lives, and the sometime devastating impact these have on our social world and environment. Du Preez will introduce the shift from product-focused design, to that of holistic services and systems, as well as issues surrounding sustainability, accessibility and design for social innovation.
Du Preez has a Masters in Design, a Post Graduate Diploma in Higher Education and Training, has collaborated on two design textbooks and has presented at numerous design and education conferences. Her interest in the user experience and service design fields has resulted in a number of international research projects and she is currently completing her doctorate within this field.
The talk will be held on Wednesday 6 May 2015 from 1-2.30pm at the Cape Craft and Design Institute, 2nd Floor, 37 Barrack Street, Cape Town. Entry is free but RSVP early to email@example.com
, as space is limited.
