Standard Bank wins appeal against ASA

The Advertising Standard Committee (ASC) has ruled that Standard Bank can continue to use its 101% proudly South African advertising campaign. This follows an appeal by Standard Bank against an Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa (ASA) Directorate ruling that the campaign was misleading.

The appeal was heard on 31 January 2006. The ASC concluded that the ASA Directorate was correct in its findings based on the submissions before it. Given the further submissions that Standard Bank made to the ASC, however, the ASC found that the appeal should be upheld and that Standard Bank be entitled to continue to use the campaign.

Sarah-Anne Orphanides, Director Group Marketing at Standard Bank, says: "We welcome the ASC ruling and will immediately start flighting the adverts on television. The campaign is aimed at demonstrating Standard Bank's total commitment to South Africa."
