Thousands get on the Springbok bus

From a distance the bright artwork on the new Springbok bus shows a handful of SA rugby supporters cheering on their team. Step up close and the bus becomes the extraordinary backdrop for the faces of thousands of true-to life South African supporters who will travel along with the Springboks throughout the course of the international season.

As part of the SA Rugby 'Make It Your Game' campaign, the creative team of Gregg Bailey, Allan Solomon and Leon Jacobs at TBWA\Hunt Lascaris Cape Town came up with the idea of using thousands of photos of fans in a montage to make up one jubilant SA Rugby image. Photographers were commissioned to snap shots of supporters at various Vodacom Rugby Super 12 games and they were also stationed at shopping centres, where people pledged their support to the Boks by having their photos taken. An email campaign also allowed rugby supporters to email their digital photo to a central collection point. As a result, the Springbok bus reflects the cross spectrum of South African people who support the national team - all ages, genders and races, all shapes and sizes.

The pictures were collated and arranged by the only NASA-developed computer programme in South Africa capable of sorting multiple photographs into one bigger image - the biggest montage artwork in Africa! Huge decals were then printed out in sections by the company Graffiti - who's slogan 'Branding on the Move' was particularly apt for this job! - and applied by them to the two new buses (one for Johannesburg and one for Cape Town).

SA Rugby's 'Make It Your Game' bus recognises Springbok fans and honours them for their support. The finished bus is a colossal expression of support for the Springboks from the people of South Africa.
