GeneralHard times... Short, easy day for the judges. Very little work. It's good to see some are forging ahead and not letting tough times slow them down. Well done to those still doing great stuff.
NewspaperTwo clear winners for tied first place. And once again a beautiful piece from the guys at FoxP2 - nice one. Some fresh approaches in rather staid categories shone through. (Not that Tequila is staid, the other two.)
MagazineWhat magazine? Not enough work to judge.Nothing separating the winners in this category, so two strong entries stayed tie-first. Nothing exciting beyond that, so no third place.
OutdoorUsing billboards in a fresh way always works. A good top three. However, as nice as third was, it had some flaws as a poster. There is still time to fix things though, like 10-point copy. Also some other nice "PRINT" ideas in the outdoor category. When are we going to stop enlarging print ads to posters and not adapting them accordingly? A really strong outdoor idea for Makita drills was the clear favourite of the panel, with a clearly a lot of craft going into the execution.
TV/cinemaCars vs fast food this month. Once again easy to pick out the good from the "not so good". There was some discussion on originality so the jury judged accordingly. It was a long week, the panel needed a laugh... and TV gave it to us with three funny ads coming through. A really fresh idea for Chicken Licken (I think a lot of people would have liked to be a fly on wall in the meeting when they sold that idea).
RadioIt was refreshing to happily mark a few radio pieces as winners. Nice one, Cell C. Let's keep pushing on Radio. No dispute on the top three; looking a bit thin beyond those.
