Only three SA in-book for D&AD Student

The D&AD Student Awards identify and promote the best emerging talent within design, advertising and communications each year. The Student Yellow Pencil is awarded to work that responds to the pre-set briefs with a brilliant idea, beautifully crafted. Nominations were announced this morning, Wednesday, 6 May 2009.
Almost 3000 entries
One hundred student teams from Europe, the US and Asia have been nominated for the Student Yellow Pencil this year. Over 170 judges representing major brands and creative agencies made up the 26 juries that selected the best work of the year. Nominees faced tough competition from the almost 3000 entries into the awards.
Including nominees, 308 student teams made it through and will be featured on the D&AD Winners' Site, which will be launched online at www.dandad.org/studentawards09 at the end of May. This is the first time students and their work will be featured in this way.
The UK's Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design maintained its traditionally strong position with 11 nominations, followed by Berghs School of Communication in Sweden with seven and the University of Gloucestershire and Miami Ad School Madrid tied with five nominations each. Students from Jagellonian University in Poland have earned the university's first nomination from the student awards.

“Difficult to tell the two apart”
Greg Quinton, D&AD education chairman, said, “Student Awards work was judged with the professional awards this year, and frankly it was difficult to tell the two apart - a testament to the quality of the work submitted. The creative standard is simply brilliant this year. Answering a Student Awards Brief is a big challenge and the judging (like all things D&AD) is of the highest standard possible.”
Nominated work will be showcased at D&AD New Blood (26 - 29 June) at the National Hall, Olympia, London. Winners will be announced on 2 July at the Student Awards Ceremony at King's Place, London and online on 3 July at www.dandad.org/studentawards09.
