The announcement comes as the awards deadline has been briefly extended to allow agencies and studios a final opportunity to enter at www.dandad.org/awards08. Work must arrive at D&AD in London by 4 February.
"Neville Brody has been crashing digital and graphical worlds together since the beginning, and it's fantastic that he has agreed to interpret the annual this year,” says Simon Waterfall, D&AD president. “He has been inspiring designers in multiple disciplines for so long, it will be fantastic to see how he draws them all together under one cover."
"Designing the D&AD Annual is a great honour, and, more than that, a great challenge,” comments Brody. “Through its annuals, we make historic statements about the context and role of design and advertising in society. Today, that question of identity is as loud as it has ever been, with the seismic shift away from print to electronic media and back again."
Initially working in record cover design, Brody made his name largely through his revolutionary work as art director for the Face magazine. Other international magazine directions have included City Limits, Lei, Per Lui, Actuel and Arena, together with the UK's The Times and The Observer newspaper and magazine. Various previous clients include Reuters, Coca-Cola, Microsoft & Sony.
