Ghost Pops take Gold

Jubilant Net#work BBDO bosses Abdulla Miya and Julian Watt phoned yesterday, Tuesday, 19 June 2007, from Cannes to say they had scooped a Gold Lion in the Promotions category for a merchandising idea for Simba Ghost Pops called “Vending machine”.

The Cannes judges had never seen anything like it. A speaking, shaking, smoke filled vending machine. As you are about to choose your snack, the machine vibrates, a voice says: “Haloooo, come closer, buy Ghost Pops.” Obedience is rewarded with a “Thank you” and giggles.

Watching the reactions of people using the vending machine is like a script from Candid Camera.

The Ghost Pops vending machines, which have been rigged with motion sensors, are currently being installed in university campuses across South Africa.
