Media invited to training launch for radio telescope teams
The media are invited to attend the official launch of the training component of the African VLBI Network (AVN) Programme, an initiative closely linked to the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) radio telescope project on Friday 25 October from 9.30am at SKA Project Office, Pinelands Cape Town.
The AVN Programme is aimed at creating a network of radio telescopes among African partner countries Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia and Zambia.
Among other speakers will be Dr Val Munsami, chief specialist: Astronomy and African Space Science at the Department of Science and Technology, and Dr Bernie Fanaroff and Ms Anita Loots of the SKA SA Project Office. Information will also be provided on other AVN training initiatives, such as the Joint Exchange Development Initiative workshops.
