AD agencies and AD schools are both damn crazy
What I don't understand is why these stupid ad agencies will never give those peeps a chance who unfortunately never had the bucks to study at the oh so heavenly advertising schools!
Back in the days I couldn't afford the R20k courses and now it's almost R40K! So I had to study something at an institution that was more forgiving. So now that I have the qualification (a degree) and short courses PLUS in-house experience, nobody wants to give me a chance. How many times should I hear 'Sorry, you don't have ad agency exp..' I'm even willing to take a cut on my currently salary to get my foot in the door but jeez I'm still not good enough. So how the heck am I going to get the exp if nobody wants to give me a chance? And why the heck is the ad schools charging an arm and a leg for their courses? The other thing is that most ad agencies are looking for people from certain schools. Luckily, fortunately some ad schools are currently giving bursaries for budding young ones that can't afford the fees.
