Sixteen days of activism against violence against women

The radio ad on SAfm only describes the problem and pays lip service to activism. I challenge the copywriters and the media managers who are involved in the campaign to come up with solutions or invitations to real activism.

I would like to comment on the radio announcement/ ad for the 16 days' activism against violence against women. The announcement on Radio 2000 that 'you are more likely to get raped than to finish school' is simply describing the problem and not suggesting any appropriate response or activism. It does nothing for the community except evoke sadness and pain. I challenge the copywriters and the media managers who are involved in the campaign to come up with solutions or invitations to real activism. The ad is disrespectful as it simply does lip service and reminds us again that women are victims. What can everyone do about violence against women, other than listen to smug slogans in radio announcements?

I am a feminist, a writer, editor and social worker.
