In defence of YFM

Yfm has been under the spotliight for a long time for the mish-mash that took place there for the past 3 or 4 years where it showed a drastic downward trend in terms of audience figures and miscalculated programming changes.

Fast-track to April 2008, the station is shaping up and redeeming itself and what it has , over the years stood for. If you go to http//www.saarf.co.za , the audience figures are shown to have jumped from 1 200 000 daily listeners in April to 1 314 000 in October.... It is worth noting that the ad-spend has also reached glistening heights....

Before sbu got on board, the only source of energy for y was chilli as he raked in the money for the station, having the most listened to show there. The actual emphasis of this post is to shut sbus critics and tell them where to tune-off. He has been bashed and criticised like hell by the so-called radio know-hows.

The truth of the matter though right now is that the guy has drastically boosted the brand awaireness and respect for Yfm. He was able to rake 55000 listeners more to his breakfast show in a space of 2,5 months ( from august rams ). His show is the most money-spinner currently at y, as his show is dangerously clogged by marketers and advertisers searching for his blood. Ever since his on-boardship, it has only been an upward trend for the frequency 99.2 fm.... whether you like it or not , the guy just kills is .... None the less, I was just like you, bashing him and his un-orthodox approach to radio but he has validated his relevance and i believe he is well positioned at Yfm as was not the case with shaka-zulu fm aka ukhozi ( no disrespect intended). Funny enough, the guy is the only one i know of at y who also commands the older generation listenership. what have you got to say now as his biggest critic as the numbers dont lie? are you ready to swallow your pride? or do you still feel sbu is a no-no? why ? would love to get your take on this.
