AAA, Digital Academy social media classes start this week

The AAA School of Advertising, in co-operation with Walter Pike's Digital Academy, is offering a part-time course in Digital Marketing Strategy from 18 February to 29 May 2010 in Johannesburg.

The course, taught by Walter Pike, former AAA faculty head of marketing & advertising, founder of the Digital Marketing Academy and speaker on social media, digital marketing and the Internet, will take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (and some Saturdays).

"This course will equip students with every component of the digital marketing toolbox and they will leave with an online portfolio that will demonstrate expertise in digital communications," says Pike.

Students will need to complete an online portfolio

Covering up to 25 topics, including search engine optimisation (SEO), cloud computing, social networking, each concept will be presented with an overview, an explanation of how it works, and a practical application. The class has already been entered into the Google Global Marketing Challenge, with students receiving more than $200 to use in a practical assignment competing with teams from around the world. Each student will be required to complete an online portfolio, which will chronicle his or her ongoing exploration through the world of social media.

"South Africans are adopting the broadband internet at an astonishing rate with more than a third of the total population already accessing user generated content on a daily basis from their mobile phones. This is having an immense impact on economic growth, and the marketing industry has to make a conscious effort to embrace this growing connectivity," concludes Pike.
