The South African film, A Million Colours (e'Lollipop II), has been selected to open the Hollywood Black Film Festival tonight, Thursday, 27 October 2011. [video]

Peter Bishai, the award-winning Canadian born director and co-writer of the film, says that he is thrilled that the film was selected. "The Hollywood Black Film Festival is renowned for celebrating the diversity of world culture. Being in this group of films is testament to the work of our entire South African cast and crew, whose artistry is truly world-class. The film is an exciting and moving romantic drama. While it tells a uniquely South African story, its theme is universal - that love and friendship bring hope to our wounded souls."

A colourful global story in the vein of Slumdog Millionaire, A Million Colours (e'Lollipop II) was inspired by a true life story - that of Muntu Ndebele and Norman Knox (the black and white stars, respectively, of the 1976 film classic e'Lollipop - one of South Africa's biggest box-office hits which was viewed in more than 40 countries). Actor Wandile Molebatsi (currently starring in The Wild
on M-Net) portrays Muntu Ndebele, while Idols winner Jason Hartman was cast in the role of Norman Knox.

"It is a tour de force of characters, dialogue, circumstance, drama and exhilaration, as the main characters find their way into a hopeful future by honouring and uplifting those who sacrificed lives and loved ones with an unprecedented determination to respond to a second chance," Bishai concluded.

The cast includes Hollywood actor Stelio Savante, who was born in South Africa and starred in several successful productions such as Ugly Betty, Law and Order, NCIS, and My Super Ex-Girlfriend.

The film is set to be released in South Africa early in 2012.
