Independent stops the presses
NEWSWATCH: The presses used to print the Cape Times and Cape Argus are to stop at the Independent Newspapers facility in Cape Town, very sadly putting a number of operators out of jobs, reports Isolezwe.

- Isolezwe: Independent to stop the presses... Sadly for a number of staff, the move means they will be out of a job. The presses will stop on 31 March 2011 and from April both the Cape Times and Cape Argus, plus the Daily Voice and Independent's community newspapers will be printed by Cape and Transvaal Printers in Parow. Ishmet Davidson, GM of Independent Newspapers Cape, is reported to have said yesterday, Monday 24 January, that "[w]e have to acknowledge that our presses are old and outdated..." Which begs the question: Why were they not replaced in good time?
