Survivor's Gareth turns brand ambassador

Popular doctor turned actor Gareth Tjasink, known for his stint as the Archers Aqua hottie, a brief appearance on Egoli and more recently as a Survivor South Africa contestant, has been announced as the face and spokesperson for 35050, tying in with the wireless data services and products developer and provider's recent re-launch.

Commenting on the choice of Tjasink, Thomas van der Linde, chief marketing officer for 35050, says: "We are proud to announce Gareth Tjasink as a brand ambassador for 35050 as we believe Gareth is true to our brand. He is an icon whom our target market can aspire to - young, aspirational, intelligent, multi-talented and a solid role model."

Apart from making several appearances as a spokesperson tied in with the brand, pictures and other information on Tjasink will also be available exclusively as downloads from 35050.

Van der Linde says that the relationship with Tjasink ties in with the recent re-launch of 35050, which saw the brand presenting a new look and feel. "Our target market has shifted from the X-generation to the so-called M-generation. This market is far more discerning so we want to ensure that we provide for them. This includes providing access to some of the most popular celebrities and icons, hence the relationship we formed with Gareth."

Tjasink admits that he enjoys a keen interest in products available as downloads for cellphones and is excited to be associated with 35050 as he sees the brand as the market leader within its field.

"The way that communication with the public has advanced, especially within the youth market, has drastically changed during the last decade or so. In building my public profile, I believe that communication through 35050 will be an ideal platform for me to stay top-of-mind with people who have an appreciation of what I do," says Tjasink.

Presently completing his internship at the Baragwaneth Hospital in Soweto as a doctor, Tjasink is looking forward to further opportunities in building his TV career, as well as specialising in maxillofacial surgery.
