CT texters to represent SA in New York
Capetonians Olivia Burton (15) and Wilbur Hough (23) are South Africa's fastest texters, beating six other qualifiers from across the country at the National Championship of the LG Mobile World Cup held late last week. The two Capetonians won R50 000 and R20 000 respectively and will jet off to New York in January 2011 to represent SA in the LG Mobile Worldcup World Championships.
Launched to celebrate mobile culture and advances in mobile technology, the LG Mobile Worldcup has 24 participating countries, including SA, this year. At the World Championships, the SA team will have the chance to win the ultimate prize of US$ 10 000 and challenge the current Guinness World Records, established by Pedro Matias of Portugal last year.
The SA leg of the competition drew a total of 77&bnsp;800 entrants; the oldest was from 55-year old man and the youngest an 11-year old boy. Burton came tops with 245 points, while Hough finished 23 points behind her. Third place went to Sharlene Dziire of Northgate in Johannesburg.
For the first time, Mindsports South Africa certified the "fastest texter" record in SA. This was set by Hough who typed a 133-character sentence in two minutes four seconds.
