Outdoor competition gets students thinking big

First year students at the Vega School of Advertising responded enthusiastically when they were delivered a brief to conceive a creative wishing the Springboks the best of luck for the up and coming World Cup clash.

The winning students will see their design applicated on a massive, 6m x 12m billboard structure located on the M1 near the Crown interchange and secured by Melissa Banks, National Sales Manager for Nail Outdoor. The printing and production will be executed and sponsored by Fishwicks printers.

"The big idea was to increase the awareness of the importance of great outdoor creative. At the same time it is a brilliant opportunity for the students involved to see their work implemented on such a grand scale," says Melissa Banks.

The winning creative and structure was formulated by Daryn Groom and Marius Esterhuizen, both first year students at Vega. In second place were Carl Alfonso with Lauren Carter, and third, Jacqui Poppin and Ruby Obeng-Tuffah.

Tough judging decisions had to be made by Les Holley, Editor of OHMSA Graphics, Michael Tame of Fishwicks; Jaco Smit of NAIL Outdoor, Dulile Sowaga, Media and Marketing Editor of City Press and Hanneke Schutte of the Vega Brand Communication School.
