New Kaya FM lineup

Kaya FM announced a reshuffling of its presenters' lineup earlier this week, which came into effect on Monday, 15 October 2007. It also announced the departure of the husband and wife team Mio and Queenie, who have left Joburg to join a newly-licensed station in Mpumalanga.

“We are saddened to be losing two members of our family who have made such a great contribution to the radio station and to abomKaya; however, we wish them luck and success in their new endeavors,” said station manager Charlene Deacon.

Announcing the new presenter lineup, Kaya FM's programming manager Neil Johnson said, “Change is inevitable in the country's most contested radio market. We are in a process of building an on-air team with a depth of experience and skill. And with digital platforms transforming the way we communicate with our listeners and our listeners fast changing demographics, we believe that these on-air changes will add move value to one of Gauteng's fastest growing radio stations”.

The new Kaya FM DJ line up:

  • Ex-KFM and Heart FM presenter Mesia Gumede now presents The Tonight Show, 10pm – 1am, Mondays to Thursdays
  • Buyile Mdlala, whose TV and film career is demanding more of his time, will continue to host Old School Sunday Afternoon on Sundays 3pm – 7pm
  • Thabo Mokwele's T-Bose in the morning has replaced Mio and Queenie, 9am – 12 noon, Mondays to Fridays.
  • George Biza will take over the flagship Kaya FM Top 30 show on Saturdays, 9am – 12 noon, from 1 December.
  • Nandi Tshifularo presents both Celebrity Saturday and Old School Sunday on Saturdays, 3pm – 6pm and Sundays 9am – 12 noon
  • Reggie Philander has taken over from Nandi to present Saturday Night with Reggie, as well as the R&B Top 10

Portia Adams, Kaya FM presenter and traffic reporter on the Dube drive, will head up the newly formed Kaya Traffic department. Johnson says that traffic in Johannesburg is one of the most challenging aspects of living in the city.

“We are planning to look at traffic in a far more serious and integrated way. Simple traffic reports are just not good enough any longer! Traffic now day's is news! We need to be in constant and close contact with commuters, the Johannesburg and Gauteng roads agencies, the Gauteng Transport department, Metro rail, ACSA, Metro bus and all relevant traffic and transport stakeholders to get a clearer picture about developments that influence the way our listeners commute.
