Women's Show partners with SABC Public Commercial Services

The Women's Show and key SABC Public Commercial Services (PCS) platforms SABC3 and Metro FM have formed an historic and long-term partnership to create a multiple platform experience within the context of the exhibition theme, “Celebrating our similarities”.

The partnership was announced this week to coincide with the opening of The Women's Show at the Sandton Convention Centre on Friday, 25 April 2008. The Women's Show is designed as a highly experiential and sensory platform which showcases authentic products and services by companies that recognise the value of women.

Action-packed lineup

Combining a three-day exhibition-style shopping, networking, and browsing experience with a Women's Lifestyle Stage, The Women's Show includes a daily action-packed lineup featuring some of South Africa's best loved fashion brands, and business and lifestyle personalities.

This year's attractions includes a Metro FM and SABC3 Cocktail Lounge, where SABC3 personalities Liezel van der Westhuizen and Jo-anne Strauss, as well as Metro FM's Criselda Kananda, Penny Lebyane and others, can be seen and heard during the course of the three-day event. Metro FM will also be broadcasting live from the Cocktail Lounge throughout the show.

CEO of SE Shows & Events David Wolstenholme, who launched The Women's Show brand in South Africa in 2005, says, “The current global trend is such that traditional media platforms are giving way to live events and multimedia power brands. The strong brand match between The Women's Show and SABC PCS platforms, SABC3 and Metro FM, allows us to integrate and create powerful content across this interactive exhibition platform for the 2009 Women's Show Programme.

“This show is the only exhibition in the country that recognises that women are the majority decision makers in terms of all lifestyle purchases, and our partnership will allow us to stimulate conversations with women by women via some of their favourite SABC 3 and METRO FM personalities.”

The team's long-term drive is to develop unique content aimed at addressing the lifestyle issues that are relevant to South African women that include home, relationships, food, fashion and beauty, as well as the bigger issue-triggers relating to safety and security, education, healthcare, financial planning, career growth, and parenting.

Survey

As part of their collective mandate to educate, entertain and inspire women, the partners launched an online “Power of Women” Survey last week which seeks to identify the top 10 issues that matter most to the modern South African woman. The feedback will premiere via The Women's Show where MC Irit Noble will encourage visitors to add their signatures to a signing wall hosted by the Mail & Guardian with the aim of raising awareness of the number one issue that respondents vote for as being the most deserving of action. The petition will be presented to Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka's office after the event.

Part of the survey results will be presented on the Women's Lifestyle Stage, when Radio 2000's Women on the Move show host KG Moeketsi addresses show visitors on Friday 25 April on the subject of “What Women Want.” Show visitors can also visit the Radio 2000 team at their Afro-Urban Hospitality Lounge, from which they will be broadcasting some of the show's most inspiring discussions.

On Saturday 26 April, Metro FM will host a conversation on The Women's Show Lifestyle Stage discussing the topic, “Superwoman myth or fact: Can a woman really have it all?” featuring Azania Ndoro, Penny Lebyane, Unathi Nkayi, Criselda Kananda and Sakina Kamwendo.

On Sunday 27 April, Noble will join SABC3 personalities Joanne Strauss and Liezel van der Westhuizen on The Women's Show Lifestyle Stage for a conversation on “The Power of Women”, powered by SABC3.

Top Billing will be filming the event for broadcast the following week.
