JHI leases property to international group in New Germany

JHI Properties KwaZulu-Natal has leased 11 000sqm of space in New Germany Industrial Park to the Dubai-based Darvesh Group, which operates in the packaging industry. The group's packaging operation trades in South Africa as Technovaa Packaging Industries.

Says leasing and sales consultant Nigel Atherstone, "A key factor in selection of this location is the fact that very high power requirements by tenants are easily met, coupled with the prime location of the industrial park, about 15km inland from Durban within an existing industrial area. In addition, the new main road, currently under construction between New Germany and Riverhorse Valley (in a growth node north of Durban), will open up an important industrial corridor between the western and northern zones."

This follows another recent lease transaction concluded by Atherstone for a logistics company, for the uptake of 3000sqm of space also in New Germany Industrial Park.

Situated in Escom Road with a gross lettable area of approximately 165 000sqm, New Germany Industrial Park is a redevelopment by Seardel Group Properties on a portion of a site which is a total of 270 000sqm of land in extent, previously occupied by one tenant, Frame Textiles.

The redeveloped, multi-tenanted modern industrial park has seen the demolition of some 25 000sqm of buildings to make way for contemporary, high-specification factory and warehouse space, spacious new yard areas and internal access roads. Being redeveloped in phases and comprising 165 000sqm of modern warehouse and factory space in total, this is now the largest industrial park in New Germany. A further tranche comprising three large new factories is being redeveloped commencing July 2012, as part of the ongoing development project.

"This is a desirable location with good access and a high level of security. The factories or warehouses range from 1000sqm and are being redeveloped to suit tenant. To date there has been a good uptake of space, with a range of enquiries from companies which include motor related businesses, logistics and warehousing operations and road transport operations. Currently we are seeing an increasing demand in New Germany for large industrial and warehousing space ranging from 10 000sqm and upwards, and with large floor plates."
