Knowledge gives you the edge

Armed with the right information and insights, you are better placed to make the right decisions, and implement the right strategies. And in times of financial and political uncertainty, it becomes even more important for business leaders to take stock of where we are, and where we're going – but how do you sift through the barrage of information that is out there? Next month's 2007 Flux Trend Review – a two-day, multi-topic trend conference organised by Dion Chang – presents a snapshot of the state we're in across several disciplines.

The Corporate Review (Friday, 7 September 2007) features eight top speakers whose presentations will empower the movers and shakers of the business world.

Ferial Haffajee of the Mail & Guardian will look at the state of the nation and at what needs to be done for South Africa to become a winning nation. Siphiwe Mpye will take stock of where the “black diamonds” are in terms of media consumption, retail habits and lifestyle, giving planners an understanding of what we can expect from this sector in the mid-term. Prof Linda Richter will explore the idea that our youth have the potential to release enormous economic growth and innovation – if the right conditions prevail.

Technology

With technology playing a major role in how we relate and how we do business, the 2007 Flux Trend Review will give business role players an overview of the latest trends.

Toby Shapshak will look at ways in which technology can give firms a competitive edge, while media expert Irwin Manoim will talk about the impact the new media are having on the old: he will discuss how advertising, print publications and reading habits are being affected and where business opportunities are to be found. Petros Kondos has led the way in setting up Bluetooth technology here and in Australia, and he will discuss Bluetooth as a location-based marketing tool.

In a year that heralds great change, analyst Justice Malala will examine the state of political play in South Africa. His presentation should provide a compass to navigate the turbulent times we live in right now.

And finally, Dion Chang will provide an antidote to the hectic pace of 21st living, in a presentation entitled “The Importance of Slow thought in a fast World”.

The aim of the 2007 Flux Trend Review is to turn the vast amounts of information flung at you, into useable packages – and as knowledge is information refined.

The Flux Trend Review takes place 7 – and 8 September. For more information and online bookings, go to www.fluxtrends.co.za, or book at Computicket.
