Tongue-in-cheek Eagles website

Independent Newspaper Company (The Inc) has launched a humorous website for its annual Eagle Print Awards. Created by King James Advertising, the 'couldn't care less' website includes the history, costs, entry forms, previous entries and the terms and conditions of the competition.

"It's not often that you get to do a website that's actually supposed to be bad. And it's way more difficult than you would think," says Deon Wiggett, copywriter at King James.

"This year's entire Eagles campaign is about people who don't work in print being all pissed off that they're not allowed to enter the Eagles. Therefore, King James and Mnemonic, our online division, developed a website that's saying 'Oh well, if The Eagles doesn't care about websites, this website won't care about The Eagles either - even though it's the Eagles website.' The result is, we believe, a really excellent bad website."

Explains The Inc GM Andrew Cuthbertson, "We are very excited with the outcome as we wanted to create a website that is different, fun and mirrors the creativity and spirit of the awards."

The Eagle Print Awards were founded by Independent Newspapers in 1996 to promote and develop exceptional print advertising in South Africa. Now in its eleventh year, the Awards opened for entries on 1 August 2006 and will close on 21 September. Winners will be announced at a cocktail function on Tuesday, 17 October 2006

The Eagles website address is www.eagleawards.co.za.
