Shoprite, Checkers kick off #ActsofWarmth winter campaign

Shoprite and Checkers have kicked off their #ActsofWarmth winter campaign, which aims to inspire South Africans to act for warmth. The campaign officially launched on 17 June with well-known South African personalities taking up the challenge to make a difference in the lives of others.

The challenge is to help someone in need with an act of warmth, spread the message, share it on social media, with the hashtag #ActsOfWarmth, and encourage others to do something meaningful and warm too.

DJ Ismail Abrahams visited Footprints P.L.A.Y. in Johannesburg as part of his #ActsofWarmth challenge.

The more people participate and share their #ActsOfWarmth using the hashtag, the more food, blankets, beanies, scarfs and gloves Shoprite and Checkers will donate to communities and charity organisations across the country, to assist in warming them up in the cold months ahead.

Celebs join in

Popular radio and TV personality, Liezel van der Westhuizen, visited the Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children in Cape Town. "I got involved after spending a night out on the streets, handing out soup and blankets to various people in need. I think the #ActsOfWarmth campaign will bring warmth to many. I chose the Centre because they provide warmth, love and a safe haven for women and children who are survivors of abuse."

DJ Tira, well-known local musician, took up the #ActsOfWarmth challenge and distributed blankets, beanies, scarves and mittens to the KwaMashu Care Society in Durban. "I care a lot about the elderly and I feel they sometimes get neglected after investing their time raising future generations. So every time I get a chance to assist, I grab it with both hands."

Metro FM DJ, Ismail Abrahams, said that without a doubt, Johannesburg has the harshest winters and he wants to help warm as many people as possible. He chose Footprints P.L.A.Y. (Participating in the Lives of Youth) for #ActsOfWarmth as they do everything he would do on a daily basis if he could.
