Ulrich, Gratton on HR strategies, making the most of talent

Professor Lynda Gratton: Recessions can be good times.

Gratton, who has recently published her new book Glow, will look at how to develop sustainable and signature HR practices that will be instrumental for companies to succeed over the next two years. She will cover both short- and long-term fixes for talent acquisition and management in an organisation.

She said: “In these challenging times, creating HR strategies that are capable of fixing short-term challenges, while still preparing for the future, are essential.

“Typically, recessions are good times to put the organisation straight, by stopping procedures that weren't right, and adopting new practices. Globalisation, technology and demography will change the nature of work over the next decade.”

Ulrich's full-day presentation will discuss what he has termed the Talent Menu: the 12 key insights on the latest theory, research and practice on talent. In addition, he will discuss the unique challenges of building future leadership, and the HR professional's role in delivering talent to the organisation.

Ulrich said: “Talent has become a key factor in an organisation's response to challenges and change, and to its success rate. Talent is evolving into a science for HR professionals and a passion for many line managers. But even after stipulating that talent matters, many companies are lost in the myriad of promises, programmes and processes and lose sight of this basic tenet.”

The duo will address an audience of private and public sector professionals at The Forum in Bryanston on August 19 and 20. This is the second year that organisers Global Leaders have run this double-headed event.
