International roaming fees cut

eMobileRoaming, a division of VoIP Partners that provides low cost communications solutions throughout Africa, has launched its World SIM for any unlocked GSM handset. The SIM offers up to 80% reductions on international roaming charges in over 200 countries and territories.

Gary Wels, the company's marketing partner in South Africa, said that the pre-paid international roaming service requires no computers, no WiFi, no subscription, no monthly payments and no long-term contracts. "The service gives subscribers the ability to make and receive calls on hundreds of GSM networks around the world, at deeply discounted prices. Unlike Voice over IP (VoIP) that make calls through a computer or VoWiFi that tether the user to an Internet hotspot, it provides full GSM mobility, excellent voice quality and the kind of reliability GSM users demand.”

The average South African business traveller spends approximately R7 000 on roaming charges on a five-day international business trip. For example, a typical South African cellular provider's roaming price for a UK to South Africa call is US$ 3.20 (about R23.50) per minute - its price is US$ 0.61 (about R4.48) per minute, a saving of over 80%. Its incoming call charges are up to 80% less compared to standard roaming rates offered by South African operators and it offers free incoming SMSs in all countries.

Wels noted that the roaming solution is the first of several low-cost telephony services that eMobileRoaming plans to provide to customers throughout Africa.
