Big retailers nest in Nelspruit's Grove

Some 21 700m² have been added to the established initial phase of The Grove (previously known as Riverside Lifestyle Centre) in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, expanding it to 36 400m² and bringing with it some household name retailers.
Big retailers nest in Nelspruit's Grove

The Grove is a R42 million joint venture between Intaprop, HL Hall and Sons, AKA Capital and Mokgatlo Investments, which is planned to offer particularly vast retail options for the Nelspruit consumer.

Intaprop, a private property development and investment enterprise, has a successful track record in corporate property development, and its list of high-profile developments of scale include the 47 000m² Vaal Mall in Vanderbijlpark, the 30 000m² Willowbridge Centre in Cape Town, in addition to corporate head offices for the likes of Kagiso, Microsoft, Tiger Brands and Standard Bank.

Intaprop undertakes retail, commercial and industrial real estate development as well as land assembly and processing. It also establishes and rationalises real estate portfolios and provides its expertise to joint ventures.

A landmark development

"Many national and international retail giants have selected The Grove, which is a landmark development in the area, as their debut to the Lowveld region," said Hugo Stroud, director of Intaprop.

The Grove is located in the already successful Riverside Park node, which houses the Mpumalanga Government Offices and Legislature, Riverside Mall and Emnotweni Hotel and Casino. It is adjacent to the R40 highway, which runs between Nelspruit and White River, and already provides a superb retail offering with its shops including Toys R Us, Coricraft, Mike's Kitchen, Wimpy, FNB, Builder's Warehouse and Meltz.

Tenant mix a priority

Creating the ideal tenant mix for The Grove has been a priority for the developers and, as a result, it benefits from an extremely high ratio of large, well-loved national retailers. Overall, some 87% of gross lettable space at The Grove is taken up by leading retailers - demonstrating support for the centre's location and recognising its appeal to Nelspruit shoppers.

Phase two welcomes the likes of Dis-Chem, House & Home, McDonalds, Nando's, KFC, Hi-Fi Corporation, Furniture City, NWJ Quality Jewellery, Vodacom, MTN, Nashua Mobile, Standard Bank's new regional office, and a sensational new Spar and another 40-plus smaller stores offering a selection of goods and services.

Trusted retailers

"The new phase is significant for Nelspruit consumers, as it provides a widened range of shopping options from leading, trusted retailers offering the best products and variety available in the market. This will also serve to retain shopping spend in the area, and contributes to the local economy," said Stroud.

The Grove has a line-up of events and promotions to appeal to shoppers and celebrate the launch of the second phase. The celebrations will span the entire opening weekend from Thursday, 27 to Sunday, 30 August 2009. There is ample free parking.
