Preserving wine the PET way
With its multilayer technology that preserves wine for about two years without compromising quality or taste, Mpact Plastics’ polyethylene terephthalate (PET) alternative offers various additional benefits such as cost and safety when compared with glass. The multilayer technology acts as a barrier for the ingress of O2 and the egress of CO2, thereby preserving the contents of the packaging.

Cost savings is evident in both the packaging medium and supply chain. This is accredited to the smaller footprint that allows for larger transport loads and a lighter unit weight, resulting in reduced costs from lighter payloads.
The unit is about 85% lighter than its glass equivalent and therefore competitively priced. Less breakage during the filling process is a further cost and safety benefit. The bottles are supplied “production ready” and minimal modification to the filling line is required.
The glass-like clarity of this range, available in various colours, ensures an aesthetic on-shelf appeal and led to Mpact winning a Gold Pack and World Star award for this innovative product. Available in 187ml, 750ml and one-litre sizes, the range offers the wine industry a variety of options.
The bottles, which are specifically designed for still wine and come with plastic or aluminium closures, are suitable for use at venues and functions where glass is prohibited and enjoys popularity in the sports and airline industries. They have also been approved by the FDA in America and Returpack in Sweden, and certified by the South African Wine of Origin scheme.
Mpact supplies these bottles to several wine industry participants and continues to offer winemakers and brand owners the opportunity to participate in innovative packaging mediums that set their brand apart from others.
