Steenberg releases flagship range

Steenberg Vineyards has released the new vintages of its flagship range of niche cultivars that captures the quality of the distinctive macro-climate of its vineyards. Released in limited quantities and with new packaging, the flagship range comprises of Steenberg Catharina 2006, Steenberg Semillon 2008, and Steenberg Nebbiolo 2007.

The introduction of a flagship range follows on the success achieved, and new quality standards set in 2008 with the release of icon white blend Magna Carta 2007, as well as John Loubser's The White Savage. The latter fetched a record-breaking price for a white wine (R612 VAT incl. per bottle) at The 2008 Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction.

"Steenberg Catharina, our full bodied fusion of five red varieties, has over the years consistently performed with its wonderfully complex aroma, elegance and structure, and excellent ageing potential. With the 2006, we have brought down production significantly (by as much as 50%), in order to further accelerate the quality of the wine produced. The attention to detail, from barrel selection all the way through to blending, has paid off handsomely and my prediction is that the Steenberg Catherina 2006 is set to become a favourite," says Loubser.

Steenberg Vineyards is owned by Graham Beck and, under the helm of General Manager and Cellar Master John Loubser, produces 50,000 cases of wine annually, with approximately half being exported to 10 countries worldwide.

The Steenberg flagship range will be available at the cellar door from 1 March, or at leading specialist wine shops and restaurants.
