ICASA releases wholesale transmission questionnaire, new councillors

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has released a questionnaire on 6 October 2010 to all licensees, under the Wholesale Transmission Services for Broadcasting.

The questionnaire requests relevant information, so that the authority can:

  • Define the market for wholesale transmission services;
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of competition in the wholesale transmission services market/s
  • Declare those licensees with significant market power, where necessary

The questionnaire and accompanying documentation is available on the website www.icasa.org.za and the deadline for submission is 17 November 2010. For more information, contact the project leader Kanyisa Boqwana Tel +27 (0)11 566 3691 or kboqwana@icasa.org.za.

The authority has also announced the appointment of two new councillors who were sworn in on 1 October 2010. These are Joseph Lebooa, who was the business liaison manager in the Information Systems Division of MTN SA from November 2006 to September 2010 and Willie Currie, who was the communications and information policy programme manager of the Association for Progressive Communications (APC) from 2004-2010 and worked on global communications policy issues related to internet governance and ICTD.

The third councillor, Ntombizodwa Ndhlovu should be sworn in on 27 October.
