Call to enter travel, tourism reporting awards

Journalists who report on travel and tourism matters can now enter the 'Excellence in Travel and Tourism Reporting' category of the 2008 Hospitality Investment Africa Awards.

According to Reynold Thakhuli, PR and communications manager at the Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA) organisers of the awards in partnership with Grant Thornton THL Consulting, the awards programme will for the first time this year attract entries from the SADC region.

“We believe that the scope of tourism growth and development is huge in the sub-continent... and without any doubt reporters in the region have played a very important role in profiling projects, individuals and companies who continue to broaden tourism and hospitality developments and offerings in the sub-continent,” says Thakhuli.

“It is for this reason that we need to celebrate these achievements by paying tribute to those who worked effortlessly in putting our region on the forefront through the use of the media.”

Thakhuli says the 2008 Awards will also be made in three other categories: the Best New Hotel Development, Hospitality Innovation Award and Leadership Award. “This [is] to recognise and reward individuals and companies who have made and extraordinary contribution to lifting the profile of the tourism industry through promoting growth, investment, innovation and excellence across all tourism sectors.”

The awards, which will be hosted for the second time this year, form part of the TBCSA's second Hospitality Investment Conference Africa (HICA) taking place at the Hilton Sandton Hotel in Johannesburg, 28 - 30 September 2008. The awards will be made at on 30 September.
